Teachers Assistant (Arts based afterschool)

Description:

Teachers Assistants are responsible for assisting with the teaching and coordination of activities for students. They work closely with the teachers and site managers to supervise the students, and assist with the set up and breakdown of the space. During the summer TA's may attend field trips if scheduled. 


1. Be involved with the children as a caring and respectful adult, facilitate their play, respond with sensitivity to their needs, help them to remember and observe the limits of the program.

2. Assist the lead teacher with the overall supervision of the classroom, be aware of the environment and alert to situations that may result in conflicts between children and/or those which may be unsafe.

3. Assist staff in conducting activities in curriculum areas such as visual arts, music, dance, theater and games.

4. Prevent injuries and handle emergencies, accidents, and injuries appropriately when they occur.

5. Treat children with dignity and respect by recognizing and considering the background, special needs, and interests, style and pace of learning of each child.

6. Help children learn to think creatively, to solve problems independently, and to respect themselves and others.

7. Care for and maintain after school spaces, equipment, supplies and property of the program.

8. Properly complete and submit required paperwork on time.

Qualifications:
Previous experience working with children. Interest in visual art, theater, dance or music. Sense of humor. Ability to work as part of a small team. You are available between 1:30 and 6 pm.
