Creative Sales Associate: Boston MA
Join the Topdrawer team at the Boston locations. Kolo-Topdrawer is the American-based division of Itoya, a leading premium retailer and manufacturer based in Tokyo, Japan. Our stores operate under the brand name “Topdrawer.” We currently operate three thriving stores in Boston and San Francisco along with 15 locations in Japan. The company also operates a web business with the domain name Kolo.com.
Topdrawer stores are our community hubs, where we offer what we’ve trademarked “Tools for Nomads.” Our focus is on offering the creative class (architects, designers, entrepreneurs, writers, scientists, etc.) useful tools. Our target audience is driven people who live nomadic lives and don’t necessarily work in one place. People who, in the course of a day, might work on a plane, train, café, or park bench before ending up at their office or studio. Their tools need to be mobile. Roughly 50% of our sales originate from products that are exclusive to our company.

This is a part-time role based on thriving Newbury Street in the heart of Boston reporting to the Boston Business Development Manager. The mission of the Creative Sales Associate is to effectively assist the Manager in the operations of the store and the community engagement opportunities.
The role of a Creative Sales Associate at Topdrawer is to create an engaging shopping experience for our customers while working in a place where you can share your love for travel, photography, design, and style and interact with people in a real and authentic way. Since our core clientele are design and creative professionals, our emphasis is placed more on helping our consumers improve their comfort and productivity while working, commuting and living life on the go. We don't chase the latest fashion trends. Topdrawer instead brings a classic practical Japanese approach of minimal design and quality.
Initiates conversation and interacts with the customer in an authentic, personalized way.
Handles sales transactions with cash register. Opens and closes store including counting the till.
Shares advice, product knowledge and personal experiences to engage with the customer.
Asks customers about genuine needs, listens well and tries to fit the right solution to the right need.
Collaborates with management and peers, sharing good ideas with the team and actively participating in daily meetings, store projects and brand focuses.
Contributes to the team by being positive, respectful and helpful to others.
Knows what’s new and what’s selling well throughout the store and shares that knowledge with the customer.
Restock and merchandise store keeping it extremely clean and organized and well-stocked at all times.
Upholds labeling and signage.
Checking in inventory and regular inventory counts.
Must be able to lift 40 pound boxes.
Assist in conducting in-store events and consumer outreach.
