Stage Manager

Description:

The Y Theatre Co. produces full scale musicals and plays for young actors ages 6 & up in Salem, Haverhill, and in conjunction with public schools in Swampscott and Manchester/Essex. We are currently seeking Stage Managers to assist with productions in Salem and Manchester-Essex. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Running the check-in and check-out system (with vigor!)
  • Taking notes of all rehearsals which includes keeping the ‘prompt copy’ of the script with the booking, performer’s positions on stage, script changes as well as the props, sound and lighting needs for each scene
  • Communicate with parents, the cast, and the production team
  • Assisting with the technical elements of the production
  • Keep the director/producer on time and on schedule
  • Call the performances
  • Run rehearsal in the absence of the director
  • Help create a safe and welcoming rehearsal space and take the initiative to create a productive environment
  • Setup and breakdown of the rehearsals as needed.
  • Assist with tech week needs which may include but is not limited to load in, strike, set installation, craft projects, product organization, clean up
Qualifications:
  • A background of theatre training
  • Experience in theatre education particularly as it applies to youth
  • At least one year working with children, preference given to experience in arts programming
  • An understanding of appropriate child management techniques, and ability to work with groups of children in a variety of sizes

Schedule:

  • Afternoons 9 hours/week, additional hours closer to and including the performances
