Company Manager

Description:

The Company Manager is a full time, exempt position responsible for maintaining organizational compliance in all matters related to the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA) collective bargaining agreement (CBA) and serves as the primary liaison between company dancers and management. He or she is responsible for day-to-day coordination between the company and Boston Ballet (BBII) dancers and the artistic staff, both in the studio and at the theater.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Negotiates and executes terms of AGMA CBA, with Boston Ballet legal and executive representatives

  • Develops and manages Artistic, Dancer, BBII and Touring operating budgets in consultation with Artistic Director; administers the accounting and reporting of said budgets

  • Submits A/P check and wire requests in accordance with all choreographic licenses and staging agreements

  • Plans, budgets, negotiates, and oversees logistics for all company and BBII domestic and international touring engagements; serve as management representative in advance of and while on tour

  • Maintains all touring records, calendars and files; ensures effective and timely communication to all members of touring company and provide bi-weekly update to Artistic Director

  • Executes and ensures compliance with guaranteed seasonal and performance-based contract agreements for all performers (company and BBII dancers as well as character artists)

  • Prepares, submits, and monitors weekly dancer and Boston Ballet II payroll

  • Processes all non-immigrant visa petitions for foreign company artists (dancers, choreographers, stagers, production designers, etc.)

  • Organizes and facilitates all logistical arrangements (travel, housing, per diem, visas, etc.) for all guest artists of the Artistic, Production, Wardrobe, Music, and Public Relations departments.

  • Serves as a primary representative / point of contact to the Citizens Bank Opera House; ensures compliance with License and Letter Agreements related to theatre lease

  • Creates and maintains company seasonal calendar; petitions for applicable union waivers required by scheduling needs; coordinates daily rehearsal and performance schedules with various departmental requests for dancers’ participation; serves as Institutional Calendar author and Artistic representative for Outlook Meeting Reservation system

  • Oversees initial reporting of claims and assist Human Resources Director in handling issues and compliance concerns related to Workers’ Compensation for all dancers

  • Coordinates dancer complimentary ticket requests for box office; manages Dancer seat allotment provided for each performance

  • Manages the Director of Physical Therapy and Company Physical Therapist; manages the part-time Children’s Theater Manager position and hourly child supervisor hires for all company productions involving student performers under the age of 18

  • Attends all company / BBII performances and special events to support Production Manager / TD and Stage Management as an ancillary manager-on-duty


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 6-8 years of company management experience in a theater or ballet company

  • Exceptional organizational skills with acute attention to detail

  • Self-starting problem solver with propensity for multi-tasking with minimal supervision or direction

  • Proven, effective and efficient written and oral communications skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment

  • Knowledge and/or experience with immigration law as well as Massachusetts workers compensation law and practice

  • Familiarity with dance industry practices, traditions, and working knowledge of collective bargaining agreements, artist fees, and technical riders

  • Substantial computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office suite

  • Ability to work under pressure, with a wide variety of personalities, exhibit patience, understanding, and a sense of humor
