Collaborative Pianist

Description:

Cantilena Women’s Chorale seeks a collaborative pianist to support rehearsals and performances. Cantilena is an ensemble of approximately 40 singers, dedicated to performing music written for the treble voice. Our challenging and diverse repertoire spans the15th to the 21st centuries and includes works in many different languages and musical forms. We strive to introduce both our members and our audience to works they are unlikely to encounter in other forums, with an emphasis on music composed specifically for women's voices.

Job duties include:

Accompany the weekly 2.5 hour Cantilena rehearsals on Mondays, including holidays, from 7:30-10:00 p.m, September 2019 –early May 2020. The ensemble rehearses regularly at First Parish Unitarian Universalist in Arlington, MA.

Accompany Cantilena performances, generally 2-3 per season in the Arlington or greater Boston area.

Maintain high-quality rehearsal and performance standards aligned with the organization's values of musical excellence and community.

Lead occasional sectional rehearsals as deemed necessary by the Music Director.

Meet with the Music Director on a regular basis at times mutually agreed upon for the purposes of planning rehearsals and performances, and discussing musical and logistical performance issues.

Qualifications:

An appreciation for choral music written for treble voices

Prior experience accompanying choral ensembles

Excellent collaborative playing skills and the ability to respond artistically to a conductor

Advanced classical piano technique

Advanced sight-reading ability

Bachelor's degree in Music Performance or Collaborative Piano, advanced degree preferred

Demonstrated success as a collaborative artist, coaching and playing for classical singers

Excellent interpersonal skills and a positive attitude

Auditions will be heard for this position in late summer 2019. Candidates will be asked to perform a 3-4 minute solo selection of their choice, demonstrate sight reading abilities, and meet for  an interview.
