Gate Attendant - Ipswich (seasonal, part-time)


Summary of Position:

The Trustees is seeking part time Gate Attendants for Crane Beach at The Crane Estate to assist visitors, educate the public, enforce rules and collect daily fees. Gate Attendants ensure that thousands of visitors each year have a positive experience on the property by answering questions, promoting the organization, and greeting visitors at the entry. Will perform general cleaning of the facilities. Weekend as well as weekday shifts are needed.

Essential Functions:

  • Representing The Trustees in accordance with the messages developed and provided by the organization’s Engagement Department.

  • Efficient use of point of sale software for day use visitor transactions including entering day use fees and reconciling daily revenue. Ability to handle cash transactions. Daily count of banks & communication of issues if they arrive.

  • Greeting visitors in a warm and welcoming manner while also enforcing daily fees.

  • Opening facilities in the morning & closing facilities at night on a timely basis in a complete fashion.

  • Basic facility maintenance procedures carried out, on a daily basis.

  • Effectively and professionally manage visitor complaints. Accurately report incidents according to Trustees policy. Track visitation of members, residents & visitors.

  • Willingness to follow checklists to ensure consistent delivery of services.

  • Reporting safety concerns, incidents, and maintenance needs to the Beach Management.

  • Enforcing rules and regulations.

  • Assist in the distribution and collection of survey data from Trustees' visitors.

  • Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation

  • Explaining the benefits of Trustees membership and promoting special events.

  • Have a strong interest in customer service. Experience in this area is preferred but not mandatory. Self-starter, ability to motivate oneself, operate with a high degree of integrity.

  • Ability to perform in a public facing environment, making all visitors feel welcome.

  • Energetic personality. Greeting the public in speaking skills to promote the mission of The Trustees and be capable of working independently or cooperatively with other staff.

  • Must be comfortable on their feet for extended periods of time and able to lift 40 lbs.

  • Must be comfortable working on a variety of tasks listed above and have a good eye for detail.

  • Perform tasks safely and in accordance with The Trustees safety manual.

  • Behave in a professional manner with their colleagues, property visitors and volunteers.


  • Background check required, Driving check required.

  • Flexibility to work holidays, evenings and weekends is required.

  • Willingness to drive a Trustees pickup truck if required.

Working Conditions:

Variable outdoor weather conditions. Ability to lift 40 pounds and be comfortable on feet for extended periods required.

Benefits and Salary:

This is a seasonal, non-exempt, hourly paid position, with an optimal start of Labor Day.
