The Opportunity. Reporting to the Chief of Development, the Trustees are seeking a part-time Associate Director of Philanthropy (ADP), who can build on the highest standards of traditional fundraising, while encompassing new trends in philanthropy and innovation around leveraging individuals in terms of annual giving, major gifts, and legacies. Fundraising goals for this position will depend on the selected candidate’s availability. This role is also a full-time position. Our full-time ADP’s secure annual leadership support (gifts of $25,000+) in the range of $1 million per year after two years in the position, and they host an average of 75 meetings per year. Additionally, ADP’s increase annual fund gifts, create new giving society members and secure new legacies from a portfolio of approximately 150 names (including new prospects). We will shift the goals of this position to ensure we work with our selected candidate to establish reasonable goals and portfolio size based on your availability and capacity.
This position will work closely with the other members of the Major Gifts and Annual Fund team at the Trustees as well as the Chief of Development, Program Heads and the President on existing donors, but would be expected to cultivate an individual portfolio of donors and new prospects. The Associate Director of Philanthropy will possess a strong appreciation for the work of The Trustees, as well as an entrepreneurial spirit that will be applied to discovering new leadership prospects while engaging current donors and increasing their philanthropic support of The Trustees.
Are you a match? The position requires a strategic, energetic, and highly motivated development professional with a proven track record in fundraising. Competitive candidates will demonstrate superior communication and social skills, as well as the desire to be part of a team-oriented environment. Successful candidates will have 5+ years of development experience with demonstrated success in major gifts, planned giving and annual fund solicitations. An understanding of the North Shore philanthropic community is a plus.
The Team. The Trustees’ annual operating budget is approximately $35 million, $14 million of which is derived through philanthropy. The Development Department oversees corporate, foundation, and government grants, as well as annual giving, major gift and campaign initiatives, legacy giving, stewardship, advancement services, and governance.As a member of the Development Department, you will join a team-oriented group of passionate professionals who care about the mission of The Trustees.
To support The Trustees 5-year strategic plan, the Development Department is investing in several new senior positions that will help transform and enhance the way the organization relates to and engages with its supporters and attracts a whole new generation of donors who embrace the organization, not just for its mission but because it represents a fundamental aspect of their daily lives.
Maintain and Deepen Current Relationships: Maximize support from the Trustee’s pool of individual donors to achieve annual goals. With the support and counsel of the Chief of Development, the Associate Director of Philanthropy will develop and deploy effective solicitation strategies as well as steward donors throughout the major giving process.
The Associate Director of Philanthropy must always be well prepared for prospect and donor meetings without exception. Sometimes the Associate Director of Philanthropy will benefit from the support of the Development Research, Analysis, and Strategy Manager. Other times the Associate Director of Philanthropy will need to plan for and execute their own prospect research.
Work collaboratively and seamlessly with the Annual Giving, Governance and Development Services team. The Associate Director of Philanthropy will work closely will this sub-team to provide seamless development strategy and execution of annual fund, major gifts and legacies.
Work collaboratively and seamlessly with all Trustees teammates to strategically and entrepreneurially solve problems and achieve goals. If/when issues do arise, employ professional communication standards with teammates when working towards a resolution.
Achieve and maintain highest standards of relationship management and reporting.
Plan and execute strategies and campaigns to achieve fund raising targets.
Collaborate with President and others to strengthen existing relationships with major donors.
Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward new individual donor prospects.
Strong writing, public speaking, creative event planning and strategic thinking.
Execute and create meaningful points of engagement for our donors.
5 + years of fundraising and campaign experience.
Proven front line fundraiser with experience developing a portfolio, preferably in an organization with a conservation mission and a track record of securing 6 figure gifts.
Articulate, strategic, entrepreneurial, problem solver with a proven ability to listen, write, and speak effectively.
Highly motivated self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment and management. experience with multiple reports within development department.
Ability to communicate through multiple levels of an organization, and to work collaboratively.
Excellent strategic thinking and strong analytical skills.
