Assistant Conservator, Public Outreach

Description:

Under the direction of the Chair of Conservation and Collections Management, the Assistant Conservator, Public Outreach will coordinate and execute outreach initiatives for the Conservation Center’s public engagement space and multi-purpose seminar room. Collaborate with colleagues within the department and across the Museum, and coordinate the creation and implementation of conservation and collections care content in public programming, exhibitions, gallery displays, and online to enable greater visitor access and engagement with the Museum’s collections and to increase the department’s public presence.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate, propose, and manage programming and displays in the Conservation Center in collaboration with department colleagues
  • Actively engage with the public via talks and tours
  • Serve as a resource for the department and aid colleagues in the development and creation of outreach content and materials
  • Liaise with Education department to research, evaluate, and develop effective outreach strategies
  • Liaise with staff to coordinate and develop conservation-related content for public programming, tours, gallery displays and exhibitions, and online content, and explore new methods and formats for engagement in the Conservation Center
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the department and across the Museum to enhance communication and streamline the department’s outreach efforts, with the goal of raising awareness of the achievements and contributions of the department and developing methods to share and interpret content to enhance visitor experience
  • Facilitate capacity to develop, create, and host lectures, workshops, classes, demonstrations, etc. in the Conservation Center
  • Assist with development of content for website and social media
This is a one-year term position, with full-time benefits.
Qualifications:
  • Applicants must have a Master’s degree in conservation from a recognized conservation training program, or equivalent experience
  • At least two years of broad conservation experience gained in museums that have sought and achieved imaginative ways of engaging with visitors
  • Demonstrated commitment to public outreach and evident experience working successfully with multiple museum departments to achieve various forms of outreach and engagement
  • Superior judgment, tact and diplomacy, and organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Enthusiastic dedication to collaboration with others
  • Concern with diversity, equity, and inclusion in museums, and interest in exploring the changing nature of art museums and their relationship to the public
