Social Media Strategist & Writer, Marketing & Communications

Description:

This position serves as a Social Media Strategist/Writer in the Marketing and Communications department. The Social Media Strategist/Writer is responsible for the Aquarium's social media strategy, execution, and day-to-day activity. This person is also responsible for the creation of a variety of marketing-based and mission-related content, for both print and digital mediums.

SCHEDULE
Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm approximately 35 hours weekly


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Manage all of the Aquarium's social media accounts to maximize traffic, engagement, and growth:
  2. Work with members of the marketing department to develop a social media strategy and execution to support the overall marketing objectives and grow audiences and user engagement on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and other emerging social media channels and online platforms for the Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life and executive office accounts.
  3. Create, curate, and manage engaging, clickable, shareable social media content through superior writing, and utilizing video and photography generated by colleagues and contractors.
  4. Develop a calendar of relevant internal and external topics and events to help shape the social media strategy.
  5. Using data analytic tools, monitor, audit, and assess the effectiveness of social media efforts, report out on social media analytics and recommend content optimization strategies across all social media platforms.
  6. Monitor, listen, and promptly respond to users.
  7. Develop and execute annual social media trainings and assist in the creation of fact sheets for Aquarium staff that yields best practices for posting and advocacy.
  8. Write long and short copy Aquarium publications, including but not limited to the quarterly member magazine, website, and e-newsletters on multiple topics, with a strong focus on marine conservation, research, and education.
  9. Convey complex topics clearly to both scientific and lay audiences.
  10. Cultivate relationships with key staff to enable open and frequent communication and the sharing of news and ideas.
  11. Help update website as needed.
Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS


Minimum Training and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism, or related field. 3 + years experience managing a variety of social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) and marketing related long and short copy experience.
  • Experience in a science and/or conservation organization preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of digital content and social engagement best practices and industry standards
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Excellent written and oral communications
  • Superior interpersonal, organization, time management and teamwork sills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet strict deadlines
  • Proven creative and innovative social media approaches
  • Experience with data analytics to drive social media strategy
  • Experience with WordPress, Sprout, Basecamp, and data analytics to drive social media strategy
  • Commitment to the Aquarium's mission and ocean conservation
  • Required to work occasional evenings and weekends as necessary.
