Intern; 200 hours

3, 2020- June 12, 2020 (w/option to extend to summer)
Intern would work an average of 13.5 hours per week for 15
weeks. Time working would be spread over 2 or 3 weekdays per week and 2
Saturdays per month, with priority given to morning and early afternoon hours
(approx.. 10 am to 2:30 pm).

Position Summary:
The EcoTarium, a museum of
science & nature, seeks engaging and enthusiastic spring interns to lead
educational programs for the public. Programming is on a variety of natural and
physical science topics and takes place on the museum floor, and outdoors on
our 55-acre site, and includes play facilitation in our Nature Explore® Outdoor
Exhibit. Teaching is through hands-on
and inquiry-based methods encouraging exploration and self-directed
learning. Activities help instill a
passion for science and promote stewardship of the natural environment.
Candidates
must enjoy working with youth ages 0-12 and their families, possess a keen
interest in science, and be committed to ongoing growth and learning in the
fields of science and education.
Candidates
have the opportunity to receive college credit upon completion of the
internship, and are responsible for obtaining the hours required by their
institutions. The option to extend this position into summer will apply to qualified
candidates.
Responsibilities:

Lead daily Science Discovery programs and table-top
activities for visitors
·
Assist
with school programs and camp
sessions on a variety of science topics
·
Occasionallyassist with overnight program preparation and sign-in
·
Conduct
indoor/outdoor programming and activities in all types of weather conditions
·
Develop
and document creative curriculum
·
Prepare for and actively participate in all
training
·
Uniform/dress code required
Qualifications:
·
Must
be at least 18 years of age, and currently enrolled in a college or university
·
Interest
in and enthusiasm for science and education
·
Comfort
with public speaking and/or a flair for public presentation
·
Excellent
customer service and interpersonal skills
·
Creative
individual with ability to work independently and as part of a team
·
Interest
in and/or experience working with diverse audiences
·
Pass
CORI/SORI background checks according to EcoTarium’s guidelines
