Summer Dance & Movement Director

Description:

NEMPAC is seeking a Summer Dance & Movement Director for August 17-21 for a children's program ages 4 - 6. Students enrolled commit to a half-day program from 9 a.m - 12 p.m or 1 - 4 p.m. The director will create an interactive and engaging curriculum that explores various dance styles such as ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, etc. Each day will highlight a specific dance style through movement, crafts (as applicable), and lessons. Students will learn a short dance from the genre and will incorporate it into their final dance which is performed for friends and family. The director will choreograph a dance that is age-appropriate using some basic movements from each dance style. Before and during the camp week, the director is responsible for communicating with families about the details of the camp and what they can expect each day. They will send photos or videos of something they did each day to give parents an idea about what the kids are doing during the workshop.

The director should love teaching children, know how to keep the programming fun for all involved and be an excellent communicator. This position is ideal for someone with excellent classroom management skills and an interest in working with younger students.

Hours:

Monday - Friday - 8:15a.m - 5p.m

Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Communicate with parents which include: emails at least two weeks prior to camp with full details of the week’s activities, daily wrap-ups including pictures from the day and schedule for the next day, show reminders, activities of the day updates, costume needs, etc.nterns as needed.
  • Run early drop off from 8:30-9 a.m and late pick up from 4-5p.m
  • Run daily check-in and check-out
  • Develop a curriculum that highlights four dance styles throughout the week
  • Choreograph end of camp dance that highlights what they learn
  • Work with and supervise interns as needed
  • Notify NEMPAC of any facility needs, concerns, or challenges
  • Purchase all materials and snacks needed for the camp activities
  • Create daily schedules and leads all activities
  • Ensure the safety of all students and staff
Qualifications:
  • Skilled in teaching students between the ages of 4-6, with excellent classroom management skills.
  • Have prior musical theatre or dance teaching experience and be committed to promoting the growth of their students.
  • Have exceptional communication and organizational skills.
  • Passion for dance, music, theatre, and arts education.
  • A positive and fun attitude!
  • Have flexibility to changes in schedule, can work in a fast-paced environment
  • An undergraduate degree in education, dance, musical theatre, dance/arts education is required, and a graduate degree is highly preferred.
