NEMPAC is looking for a new Introduction to Band Instructor to teach our “Introduction to Band - Explore Instruments!” program for 2nd graders at the Eliot School in the North End of Boston on Thursdays from 3:15-4:15 p.m from March 5th - May 28th for 10 weeks. This program is an introductory and filter course for students interested in the Eliot Band Program for 3rd-8th graders. By the end of the program, students will have a better sense of what instrument they want to take up next year. The teaching takes place at the Eliot School Intermediate building in the North End. The class will be mainly a “meet the instruments” model with the very beginning stages of learning to play each instrument.
Act as lead band teacher for a class of 12-16 students in the 2nd grade.
With the Educational Director, develop curriculum and lesson plans for the Intro to Band program that highlights the instruments and instrument families of the band.
Communicate with Educational Director if any specialists need to be hired and brought in and approve all specialist lesson plans.
Communicate with Educational Director if any additional materials or instruments are required.
Communicate with families on student progress, scheduling, etc
Work with the Eliot Band Director, Maestro Marchese, on any partnership performances or opportunities with the Eliot Band Program.
Skilled in band performance and pedagogy.
Comfortable teaching the basics of brass, woodwinds and percussion instruments to students.
Have prior teaching experience and be committed to promoting the growth of their students.
Have exceptional communication and organizational skills.
An undergraduate degree in music performance or education is required, and a graduate degree is highly preferred.
